Brixton LETS people recently had a meeting to look at the direction of LETS in Brixton. The meeting took place over a delicious meal cooked by Duncan. Present were Jody and Duncan from Transition Town Brixton, Josh from New Economics Foundation and John from Brixton LETS. They discussed the possibility of launching a certain amount of Brixton LETS currency later on this year. The idea here is that LETS traders and businesses buy the currency at a price of one pound per brick ( the name of one LETS unit ), then they use the currency to trade locally with each other. The group would like to use the Sustainable Local Economy Conference in Brixton in June ( date to be confirmed ) as a venue for working out more of the details and for encouraging support and recruiting LETS traders.
